Hello lovelies! Today’s review is the mask from Day 1 of the Soko Glam’s 7 Day Challenge! Wooo!
This mask is from My Scheming, a Taiwanese brand, Rumor has it that they’re made by the same manufacturer that makes My Beauty Diary, but I cannot corroborate that for sure XD I got a box of ten from Amazon for $15 with free shipping, which makes it about $1.50 a mask—not bad at all. It’s from the only seller in the US licensed to sell this brand in the US. I got it lightning fast (they’re located in NJ). Man, The packaging is so fucking cute on these masks!!
Some packaging porn 😛
I have heard some wonderful things about this mask brand on Reddit on from other IG Asian Beauty fans, so I was super excited to try this! Plus, it’s rose, my favorite scent evarrrrr.
- Rose dew extract contains rich moisturizing elements that effectively penetrate through skin and provide deep hydration.
- The rose fragrance also soothes & relaxes.
T_T… wellll, not the only thing, but you know…
Sounds amazing right?? It gets better. Look at the ingredients list:
WATER、GLYCERIN、UREA、ARBUTIN、ROSA DAMASCENA FLOWER WATER、ACRYLATES/C10-30 ALKYL ACRYLATE CROSSPOLYMER、PEG-60 HYDROGENATED CASTOR OIL、JOJOBA WAX PEG-120 ESTERS、TRANEXAMIC ACID、NASTURTIUM OFFICINALE EXTRACT、TOCOPHERYL ACETATE、SODIUM HYALURONATE、IMPERATA CYLINDRICA ROOT EXTRACT、POLYGLUTAMIC ACID、DIPOTASSIUM GLYCYRRHIZATE、SCLEROTIUM GUM、CUCUMIS SATIVUS (CUCUMBER) FRUIT EXTRACT、XANTHAN GUM、PARAFFINUM LIQUIDUM / SODIUM POLYACRYLATE、PROPYLENE GLYCOL、IODOPROPYNYL BUTYLCARBAMATE、METHYLISOTHIAZOLINONE、FRAGRANCE.
HOLY SHIT arbutin is listed 4th and rose right after.
Arbutin (as we know from a previous review) is an excellent skin lightener. It has melanin-inhibiting properties (melanin, of course, being the chemical responsible for the pigment [or lack thereof] in your skin). As I come to understand it (IANAD of course…), it stops the melanin in your skin from activating, thus helping your skin lighten.
Anyway, on to the featured ingredient: rosewater. It’s essentially rose tea: steep roses in (hopefully XD) distilled water, and voila! I’m not complaining, though… pure rose oil is expensive as fuck, so I can roll with some rose water. Roses (besides smelling amazing) are really great for your skin: It’s chock full of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants; it moisturizes, has anti-inflammatory properties, and is antimicrobial. It’s just all around awesome.
There are some other old friends on the list: sodium hyaluronate, polyglutamic acid, dipotassium glycyrrhizate (licorice), and cucumber extract–we’ve gone over most of these in previous reviews (I’m totes not cross linking anymore in this post XD). The hyaluronate is present in like 99% of sheet masks in some form or another. Why should you care? Apparently one gram of hyaluronic acid is able to hold up to six liters of water. WHAT?!? We all know that sufficiently moisturized/hydrated skin is happy skin, so this is the bomb diggety (XD) And if you don’t know, now ya know….
Enough tomfoolery. On to the review!
Mask 411: very thin mask with a plastic liner. Soaked in essence, smells like roses ❤
Mask fit: It hugs my face like a glove, fits whole face, well placed holes, NO SLITS!!!!
Did it work as advertised? OMG YES
Overall rating? ZOMG GIVE ME ALL THE ROSE DEW MASKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!!!
Mask details: The mask was very thin and was lined with a plastic back (ala MBD). It was drenched in essence… as a matter of fact, there was enough left for me to pour (yes, pour) all over myself. It smelled like roses: not too artificial, either, I was beyond pleased with the scent.
Mask Fit: Ahh, this mask fit like a dream…. It hugged my face perfectly:
The holes were all placed well too…and no slits??!?? FUCK YES! 😀
First Impression: This mask stayed wet for a looong time… I got a little over an hour before the sides started to dry!! It didn’t take but a few minutes for the essence to soak in (after which my skin was plump, moist, and felt awesommmme), then I finished my routine and went about my biz.
Aww yeah, son!
Ahhhh the awesome! Cannot stand it!!!!
This has to be one of the best mask I’ve used since the Donkey Milk mask (!). This delivered on its base promise and then some! My skin still felt moisturized and soft today. It was also nice and bright. Not only that… it helped calm down some irritation I had! Huzzah! This is actually the second one I’ve used so far…in less than a week. I lurve them so much T_T. I will definitely be stocking up on more MS masks in the future! ❤
I do have one gripe… they claimed this was a silk mask, I don’t quite know what I expected, but this wasn’t it XD It’s akin to the Hey! Pinkgo Girl mask I reviewed in terms of masks: really thin, no slits, hugs your face like whoa. Is that what they consider a silk mask?? I’ll have to do more digging to find out.
If you love rose scented stuff, plus masks that deliver on moisturizing + whitening/brightening thrown in… you’ll love this mask. I do. This will never not be in my stash… not for too long, anyway XD
Have you used this mask from My Scheming, or any of their other masks? Let me know! I will be ordering some more varieties soon so watch out for them!
