Yarn!!! (and Other Things…)

I haz yarn!! ❀

I ordered some Malabrigo from TheCozyEwe.com. They have Mal yarn at fabulous prices… I was on a yarn diet for a month before I placed this order. I figured if I was gonna do a yarn binge, might as well do it fabulously with my fave yarn brand!

Malabrigo Lace – Azalea I wish I could find this colorway in the worsted line… gorgeous!

I love Malabrigo (did I say that enough times already??!??)

I haven’t the foggiest idea what to make with it… but when do I ever? I stockpile yarn like I’m waiting for the apocalypse, and it is rare when I purchase yarn with a specific project in mind. Well, I’m definitely making some sort of scarves out of the Silky. I’ve been very fascinated with lace knitting, and making shawls, so… mayhap another lace shawl shall be made.

Can I even consider the eyelet shawl to be lace?

I think so…

I want to start something with the Mal I just got, like yesterday. But I’ve got a sock to finish, and a Wisp to pick up again… That wisp. I’ve been hesitant to pick it up again… perhaps I’ll work on it tonight while watching Law and Order: SVU.

I’ve been watching it on Netflix since Friday… I’m in the middle of Season 3 right now. It’s so bad, I didn’t even open the Season 3 Disc 1 I got of Dexter… and I love that show! I got like 12 seasons of SVU to get through… I’ll have to take a break eventually, I guess. (soon?) My friend Wallace burned me season 1 of Glee that I have yet to watch, and I also have a slew of bootlegged movies my mom got that I want to watch. They make for great background noise when I work…. until I get caught up watching and get no work done πŸ˜€

I am 70% done with the socks. I am less than an inch away from the heel breakdown, so I could prolly finish it tonight and start lugging Wisp around instead. Or I could start another project to lug with me. I dunno what to do…

I’ll figure it out.

Last night, I realized my Ravelry queue is hugemongous, so I whittled it down from almost 400 (!) to 219… and it’s still too high. I’ll never be able to do all of those projects! Besides, I have over 20 books filled with patterns that should probably take precedent… seeing as how I actually paid for the books and all πŸ˜‰ But there are so many awesome patterns, and my Rav friends are always making such nice things so I tend to stalk ’em and add whatever they did to my queue πŸ˜›

Business, business! I’ve made some charm bracelets for the shop. I’ve also made a paid of OOAK earrings I am loath to part with; they’re really ossum… I really have to figure a way to convert standard earrings to wear with my tunnels. It’s the only regret I’ve had about stretching my ears. I’ll figure it out someday. In the meanwhile, I have more than enough 2g ear ornaments (can’t really call them rings, n’est ce pas?)

Enough blabbing for now. Hopefully I’ll finish the socks soon. I reckon I might start another pair of socks, this time with that rainbow one I dyed up a month or so ago. Or maybe another shawl?? -__-

Wispy Progress! Yarn Diet Over!

Well, progress at a snail’s pace anyway:

Wispy Wrap

Aren't the colors amazing??!??

Wispy Wrap

It'll look better when blocked (I hope... :P)

ZOMG this is a bitch on my hands and wrist… this yarn is hard to work with… could be my needles, could be the fact the needles are (intentionally) too big for the weight, could be the yarn… or a combination of all the above.

I did consider frogging this, or hibernating it. It takes me like 20 minutes to complete a fucking row. It’s gorgeous, but this is going to be a time suck. I *could* frog (O__O) and use needles a size or two down, which would be counter-intuitive, I think….

I knew I should have started Entrelac instead *smh*

I’ve ordered some more of my favoritest yarn in the world, Malabrigo Silky. I really think it’s the Bee’s Knees ❀ It’s soft, warm (but not too), and the drape? Ohhhh. It has the subtle shine of silk….the softness of Merion… who can ask for more? Of course, Malabrigo are known for their awesome colorways, too. I was tempted to get some more of the ones I’ve had…but nah. I decided to get two new ones, Amoroso and Marruecos (two of each… enough for more shawls/scarves :D). I also picked up some Malabrigo Lace… I’m becoming more and more interested in lace knitting… which surprises me ’cause I have the patience of a match in the wind. I sincerely think that knitting these shawls have helped with my patience πŸ™‚ I also bought some more undyed yarn to dye up for the shop…

So, uh, my Yarn Diet is officially over.

I lasted a whole month, though πŸ˜›

This one lady on Ravelry has a stash of over 700… I was flabbergasted. I thought I had a huge stash… I should have known better. Mine (as it is now…) can at least be used in a year or two (three?). Hers…? There is no humanly way possible for one person to use that much yarn… if she made one project a week, (even two) she’d die before she finished O_o

….I may love yarn, but I have other interests and do spend my money on other foolishness stuff >__>

I also bought more bean bag fill, and 13 skeins of black embroidery floss… I had bought a multi-pack of36, with two skeins of most colors. Guess which one is running out first?Β  I cannot find any in my local stores of just black… I’d have to buy another pack; which would be wasteful as I barely use any other colors besides black and pink… and there were like 4 different hues of pink in the multi-pack. *whew*

I searched and searched… JoAnn’s had them like $.50 a skein… the cheapest I’d seen them online, so… I bought 13 (don’t ask). I also needed more bean bag fill, and they had it pretty cheap there (compared to how much I paid for the one I’m almost done with anyway).

I’m all over the damn place.

Shop updates, New Spindle, and Spinning!

[Warning: another pic-heavy post!]

I had a really productive weekend! I made a shitload of stitch markers for the shop (mini preview):

Stitch Markers for Le Shoppe

And I got a new spindle!

Before I get to the spindle, I want to show off some ofΒ  my handspun yarn!

Spinning City Lights 2

It started out like this....

My Second Handspun

The end result!

The end result! ❀

Squee! I ❀ the colors… I got the dyed roving on Etsy from Red Barn Fibers. She has awesome stuff.

This came out thick and thin; estimated from size 5 needles all the way up to 13-15, mostly on the middle-bigger end of the needle range. I don’t know how much yardage (as I was too lazy to measure), butΒ  it looks like it’s enough to make a skinny scarf or a hat at the least.

Spinning is hard work, but it’s so rewarding. The feeling of accomplishment is even greater, knowing you did everything but shave the sheep to make something—start to finish.

I love it.

And as I get obsessed easily, I have to go in full hog.

I have:

  • three spindles (two bottom whorl [one I made myself!], one top
  • 1/2 lb merino superwash roving, natural
  • 1/2 lb merino/tussah silk blend (80/20),Β  natural
  • 1/2 lb milk roving, natural
  • 1/8 lb tussah silk, natural
  • 1/16 lb firestar roving, tropical
  • 1/4 dyed merino (rainbow-y)
  • 1/4 dyed corriedale (rainbow-y)

I tried out my new spindle with the corriedale:

Yes, it says Deelicious πŸ˜›

Squee! My first thin yarn!

I ❀ the colors! Hate the wool. I don't care how soft it is *grumbles*

I love the colors, but… I find this stuff hard to spin. It doesn’t have a very long staple. The colors, though… *sigh*

I made two mini skeins (one of the blue, and one with the orange, blue, and pink) because it wasn’t coming out quite the way I wanted (twice). I must have used almost an ounce to do so :/

I was trying out spinning from the fold (as I need to practice before I can spin silk or milk… tee hee) and I got the hang of it, but boy, that short staple is a doozy. [As a side note, I did try spinning a little piece of milk… it’s slippery and tricky. I need more practice before I can tangle with it… har har]

I decided to try again with my superwash merino, which feels like clouds and spins wonderfully. I don’t know if I’ll have the time this week to spin more… I have more things to make for the shop, and I also have to make some swap stuff… I also have my blogs *ahem* and am starting up a join blog with my friend Bonnie, too!

Busy as a bee, I am.

I spent a good chunk of the weekend finishing my mom’s socks:

Mom's Sock

I hate the colorway, but she loved the socks; a win-win, as far as I'm concerned ;P

as well as (finally) winding some recycled sari silk yarn into pull balls. I need them for the shop, so I needed to get on the ball (I couldn’t resist!)

Fiber Chores :P

So, that’s how I spent my weekend!

I’m resuming work on my pink socks of awesomeness… then I’m gonna make some socks with my Skittles colorway sock yarn ❀ Those socks are going to be Teh Awesome!

I do, however, want to start up another knitting project… I’m either going to learn entrelac (finally!) or start Wisp. I already have the yarns, patterns, and the needles set up in plastic shopping bags for most of the items on the first page of my Ravelry queue, so the hard part is choosing which one to start πŸ˜›

Decisions, decisions…

It’s to DYE For…

I couldn’t resist a good pun πŸ˜‰

I’ve been dyeing with Kool Aid and Wilton’s icing dye.

It’s so much fun! The colors come out amazing, and I have the utter satisfaction of having something unduplicatable (COINING WORDS AGAIN??!??)<3

Dyeing is so addictive… I’m mixing it with my other new love (spinning) so I can be really authentic!

My Selfish Shawl

Squee! I’m almost done with it! It’s been cold enough lately, so I know I’ll get some use out of it before summer settles in… and even when it does, it’s lightweight enough to carry along, methinks.

Here are some pictures I took of it on the train this morning.

I love using Malabrigo Silky. The colors I used for this one and the one I made for my gramma are hard to find, now. I prefere varigated yarns…. solids are so…blah.

(If you’re on Rav, you can see my queue here)

I won’t be working on anything else until I finish it… that;s the new rule I have for myself. I have such a short attention span, I have to curb it, somehow. The only exceptions to this rule are

  1. things made for swaps. Which happened quite a bit the last two months
  2. things made for other people. Birthdays and mics requests, those come in ofter enough…
  3. things for my biz: well, a girl has to make some money somehow or another, right?? πŸ˜›

That’s all for now.

Updates! Crocheting is (Substitute) Fun! Creative Madness!

I have been MIA lately. My left wrist was fucked up, so I stayed away from extra-curricular typing…

And knitting.

It sucked so bad.

For a whole month and a half, I didn’t make ANYTHING. I then re-discovered my love of crochet (and I only use my right hand for that, so…) and started making things again.

I have always been better at crochet than knitting, mostly ’cause I have been crocheting for 13-14 years? But even sp, I never made anything too ambitious. So I am rather proud of myself. I have made so many things. I started back into my hat affair; I have made a shit ton of hats. I plan to sell some in my Etsy shop. I made some cloches, beanies, and also a super-fab hat I am sooo proud of. I have also made some kerchiefs as well. I look awesome in them.

Let’s start with the new yarn purchases and finished objects (this is gonna be a huge post):

And the best for last:

Willy Wonka Fascinator

Willy Wonka Fascinator

I have been getting rave reviews about this, so I put it seperately from the others. I am wrking on fascnator #2. Stay tuned.

That’s all I got for you for my projects.Β  Moar when I finish this fascinator I’m working on, and the rest of my kechiefs and headbands. I also wanna start something big, like a jacket or a shawl/wrap.

Mission:(Is)possible and Reading is Rad!

This hat should have been done DAYS ago…

About 90% done. My wrists were killing me this week, and so I have refrained from knitting, as I have no choice but to type at work. *sigh*

Will finish it tonight, and either make another one, or try a pattern from OSW.

In other news, I am near my book reading goal for the year…though I did break down and buy another book :/

I bought the last two Sookie Stackhouse books. I devour them; they are so yummy to read <3. I literally read one a day this week! (Damn, I spend a lot of money on things I like…)

Why are all my hobbies so freaking expensive??!??

I want to buy some Noro Kureyon, but the universe conspires against me. I’ll have to buy it online, as I have called 4 different LYS and none had any on hand *sigh*

I like shopping online, but that instant gratification is always nice πŸ™‚

I haven’t bought any yarn in months. I am overdue—but also over broke.

Well, my birthday’s coming up, so I shall splurge and get a new tattoo, maybe a piercing, a new bag (squee!) and YARN!

Will post pictures of new hat when (hopefully) finished tonight.

More Yarn Adventures…

Also known as a Yarn swift, this yarn umbrella has saved my ass from hours of frustration and wasted yarn...

Also known as a Yarn swift, this yarn umbrella has saved my ass from hours of frustration and wasted yarn...

So I gots me a yarn umbrella.

Coupled with an awesome idea I picked up over at Ravelry from a forum (using a toilet paper tube to make pull-out yarn balls) I am winding yarn more efficiently and faster than I ever imagined:

Yay, balls o' Yarn!

Yay, balls o' Yarn!

I have done over 19 balls since getting the umbrella last week…I left only the finer yarns to do when I get sone extra time….or whenever I think I may need them. Nah, I will get to it next weekend (as this weekend I am away to Philly) just to finally have all of my hanks winded and put away.

I have such a feeling of accomplishment, you have NO idea πŸ™‚

That’s all of the yarn adventures I’ve had lately. Now I won’t be hesitant to buy hanks of yarn anymore (not that I ever was LOL)! Hooray!

Yarn, Work, V-Day, and Other Mundane Things…

The obsession is ON!

Just spent a small fortune on yarn again this weekend…

I bought some from a seller on Etsy, and I am very excited to get it! It’ll take a while (’cause it’;s hand dyed and all), but…whew! can’t wait!

I also bought a t-shirt and some buttons from Ravelry….my other obsession now πŸ™‚

I STILL have to finish that last sock. I spend more time on Ravelyr thsn I do actually knitting ^__^

I am actually involved in an online community…whodathunkit??

Well, last few moments of freedom. the ‘rents are coming back from Costa Rica any moment now. Damn, but those five weeks flew by! I can;t wait to get all the goodies, though! Oh, Tapita, I can tatse you already!

Work; ugh. I work form home on the weekends answering emails from eBay; these people drive me insane asking the dumbest shit. I had an urge to mail them the letter I wrote a few days ago, but I resisted.

I am going to open a shop on Etsy and also on ArtFire. I am really excited about it. I plan to sell an odd assortment of stuff. I don’t think it’ll open til April, but yet and still… I reserved my spaces anyway πŸ˜‰

Today was Valentine’s and I damn near forgot. I didn’t feel like doing anything, to Alex’s disappointment. I had some shit to take care of here, and I honestly never got into this “holiday”, even when I was in a LTR.

When I was younger and single, it bothered the shit out of me. Kinda like my birthday; when I was younger, I made such a big deal out of it, and bugged the shit out of everyone about it. Now, I don’t mention it; if you remember, yay! if not, whatev.

I also completed an interview with Motionless in White for Origivation on Monday…can’t wait to see how that comes out πŸ™‚

Damn, I have over 100 posts on ravelry…addiction, I say. I need to get some actual knitting done.

And oh my fyucking goddess; it;’s like everyone I know is fucking preggo. My friends Maria, Aja, and Latoya, my bosses’ wife, two chicks at work…

Woof. I see a lot of baby clothes being knitted in the near future…

This is a schizo post; I am going all over the place, I know.

Alright, I have some laundry to put away, and that sock to finish, so I am off the computer for the rest of the night…besides my music, of course.

Shit, I gotta file taxes….

Man, Do I Have A Lot of Yarn…

Check it out. I fiiinally finished compiling my stash! (and it only took me all weekend! LOL)

27 different brands/kinds….with multiple skeins of most. I have damn near 100 skeins of yarn….that’s not counting shit in use (which is about 4 or 5…and then leftovers from previous projects??!?? Yeesh.)

I am a fiend; I am obsessed.

And I just bid on more sock yarn on eBay…

I see myself pretty broke next week.

I spent this whole weekend doing knitting related things, but not too much actual knitting.

Go figure, huh?

Well, I plan to finish this first sock tonight, and start the second one before 1 am.

But first, a smoke and some spumoni πŸ™‚
